Regional MarketsIndex

Regional Markets covers where we look. This category holds the covered market set behind site selection — the Top 400 set, the tier and co-location indices behind them, and a profile page for every market that has one today.

Start here: Regional Markets Intelligence System

Coverage Methodology

Regional Markets Intelligence System is the reference article for the co-location analysis system, and Regional Market Definition sets out what qualifies a settlement as a Regional Market on the map. The Co-location Tier System explains the four-tier classification and how it applies across North American and European markets.

  • Regional Markets intelligence system — Reference article for the co-location analysis system that identifies suburban retail markets in North America and Europe.
  • Regional market definition — Spatial containers on the location intelligence map — how settlements with co-location presence differ from Regional Markets, and why coverage is not market strength.
  • Co-location tier system — The four-tier classification — Regional, District, Local, Fringe — assigned to every co-location cluster on the platform, the predicate gates that determine it, and how the system applies across North American and European markets.

The Top 400 Markets

The Top 400 — North America and the Top 400 — Europe are the two qualifying sets: four hundred suburban commuter-belt markets per continent that meet the co-location anchor-composition gates. No rank or score is published for any market in either set.

  • Top 400 Regional Markets — North America — Set of the 400 qualifying North American suburban Regional Markets. No rank or score is published; Plano, TX is one entry (suburb of Dallas).
  • Top 400 Regional Markets — Europe — Set of 399 verified distinct European Regional Markets across 400 list positions (one position vacant pending a genuine 400th entry) under the corrected suburban-regional methodology. No rank or score is published; Chemnitz is one entry (suburb of Dresden, 64 km).

Co-Location Indices by Country

Two country-level co-location indices remain as standalone pages — Mexico and the Nordics — because neither has a country market page to sit beside. The other five were merged into their country pages on 2026-09-05 and are read there: United States, Canada, Spain, Italy, and Poland, each under a Co-location anchor network section. Every index ranks named-anchor convergence node by node within its own country and supplies the underlying cluster data the continental sets are built from.

  • Co-location index: Mexico — Index of commercial convergence nodes in Mexico, identifying sites where Walmart Supercentre anchors cluster with Home Depot, Costco, and civic infrastructure.
  • Co-location index: Nordics — Index of commercial convergence sites across Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland, anchored by IKEA with Nordic secondary operators.

Top 400 Markets by Country

Nine country-level Regional Market indices filter the continental Top 400 tables down to a single country's entries: Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Poland, Greece, Croatia, and Norway.

Market Profiles

The country index pages are the way into the profiles. Each atlas- page lists its own country's markets in a single table, with the metropolitan reference point and cluster composition for every entry: Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Poland, Greece, Croatia, and Norway. This page no longer enumerates every profile; the country tables do, and they carry the market-level detail an enumeration here cannot. Behind those tables the profiles are grouped into five regional sets — North America, the United Kingdom, the Nordics, the Adriatic and Greece, and Iberia and Central Europe — so the collection can be read a region at a time as coverage grows.

57 individual market profile pages exist today (EN+ES pairs), each with population and economic context sourced from Wikipedia.

Correction (2026-09-05): this count read 66 before the nine German, French, and Dutch profiles retired 2026-08-17 were archived on 2026-09-05; 57 is the current live total. An earlier correction the same day replaced a stale 41. The verified / reference-only split below still covers only the 32 profiles it was originally written against — the Greek (7), Croatian (9), and Norwegian (9) sets added since have not been folded into it. Flagged for a future pass, not resolved here.

Verified TOP400 entries (16): co-location cluster composition current as of the 2026-08-07 dataset. No rank or score is published for any entry; list order below is alphabetical by profile slug, not ordinal.

Note: Spartanburg, SC appears in the North American Top 400 table linked from this profile, but the profile page itself describes Spartanburg as a metro-core reference point rather than a ranked suburban entry. This is a pre-existing inconsistency in the underlying data, not resolved by this edit — flagged for a future data-reconciliation pass rather than corrected unilaterally here.

Reference-only profiles (16) — real places that are not currently part of the TOP400 set: either metro-core reference points for other entries, or standalone markets outside the 15–80 km suburban band. Each profile page says so explicitly rather than presenting a market outside the set as if it were included.

North America: Lethbridge, Kelowna, Moncton, Barrie–Innisfil, Regina, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Wichita, Spokane, Madison.

Europe: Zaragoza, Burgos, Valladolid, Pamplona, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Inverness.

Archived (2026-09-05): the seven German city profiles, Chambéry (France), and Breda (Netherlands) — retired 2026-08-17 because those three countries are deliberately excluded from the current Regional Markets methodology (locked 2026-06-30) — were archived on 2026-09-05, together with the three country index pages and the superseded framework article that had shared a Superseded and Retired shelf on this page. Their slugs redirect to this category.
