The city's airport is a major cargo hub, ranking behind only Madrid, Barcelona, and Lisbon on the Iberian Peninsula. Following its 1964 designation as an "Industrial Development Pole," Zaragoza's population doubled rapidly. The metropolitan area encompasses approximately 765,168 people, and the municipality houses more than half of Aragon's total population.
