El Grupo Antolín — uno de los mayores proveedores de componentes de interior automotriz de Europa — tiene su sede en Burgos y es el mayor empleador privado de la ciudad, con operaciones en más de 25 países. Miranda de Ebro (aproximadamente a 75 km al noreste) y su zona industrial complementan la base manufacturera de Burgos con industrias petroquímicas y de procesamiento químico.

La Universidad de Burgos, con aproximadamente 9.000 estudiantes, y el Hospital Universitario de Burgos (el mayor hospital de Castilla y León) son las principales anclas institucionales. Burgos funciona como el centro de derivación médica regional para la zona de captación oriental de Castilla y León.
