Compliant-by-construction, not check-after-design
The conventional model checks a design against building codes only after it's largely finished — a violation found late is expensive to fix. Woodfine's approach is designed to shift that check earlier: building elements are intended to carry their applicable code requirements from the moment they're placed, so a violation becomes visible in the design itself rather than surfacing at inspection.
Why this matters for a building's long-term value
Two structural properties follow from building against open standards rather than a proprietary system. First, the building's records are designed to remain independently readable for the life of the building, not tied to any one software vendor's continued existence. Second, the record is designed to move with the property at sale, functioning as part of the asset's institutional memory rather than staying locked in a prior owner's software account.
