Woodfine's approach builds on the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) standard — published as ISO 16739-1:2024 and already required by government BIM mandates in the UK, most of the EU, and a growing list of other markets. A building's records are designed to stay portable and independently readable across every software tool that touches them, regardless of which vendors come and go over a building's decades-long life.

The Golden Thread example

The UK's Building Safety Act 2022 illustrates the stakes directly. It requires a continuously maintained "Golden Thread" of safety-critical information for higher-risk buildings — from first design through occupation — that stays with the building through every change of ownership.
